Couriers

Hi all,

The backbone to my distribution is couriers we send out up to 100 parcels a day so this requires some serious logistics and a decent courier network behind it.

Now im sure some people have got a cheaper deal there is always someone cheaper but as we have learnt 0 its not always the best route. When looking at the big nationwide players i.e. TNT, Business Post, DHL, City Link and Parcel Force the only one that could give over 95% accuracy on all drops was Business Post that means that for every 100 parcels 5 are not guaranteed to get there!! OUCH! for those of you moving expensive items around that’s worrying proposition. But that’s the best the market can offer!

Luckily we have a good success rate and to date only 1 consignment over the last year with Business Post has gone missing and although a pain in the backside to get the money out of them they eventually paid the insurance.

We still use local same day couriers for those emergency drops as they seem to be cheaper and more flexible to our situation.

I’m interested in all of your views on couriers as we are due to renew our contract in the near future and 'tricks of the trade' are always useful. Not forgetting you Mr Courier what’s your views on success, drop accuracy and costing structures?

Speak to you all soon.
